21st May Annual Diocesan Youth Ministry Conference

  • 11th September: ANNUAL PATTERN DAY AT CLONMACNOIS
    Walk 11km to Clonmacnois along the Esker Riada to open air mass at monastic site on 13th September 2009. Opportunity for students to walk along the Esker Riada to the fifth century monastic site of Clonmacnois.
    This monastery founded in the fifth century by St.Ciaran along the river Shannon was indeed a modern day gateway to ancient Europe and beyond; from which many saints travelled to spread christianity.

    10am Assemble at Ballinahown car park. Drop off point only. (All buses etc must either remain in car-park
    or travel onwards to Clonmacnois site carpark.) An audio-visual presentation on Clonmacnois takes
    place in the local parish hall.
    10.45am Pilgrims walk the ancient 'pilgrims road' along the Eker Riada to Clonmacnois. ( 11 km / 7 miles )
    Refreshments ( Fruit and water ) available on route. PLEASE NOTE, It is important that students
    bring a packed lunch, suitable clothing for poor weather conditions!!!! and proper walking shoes.
    This walking event may prove to be an oportune time to seek sponsorship for an upcoming school event.
    3.00pm Open air Mass on site by most Rev Bishop Colm O'Reilly of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.
    4.30pm Light refreshments served and social time back in Ballinahown hall.
