WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 MADRID

Ardagh and Clonmacnois Youth Ministry Pilgrimage to WYD will take place from August 8th to August 29th 2011.
World youth day 2011 will be an international youth celebration of the Christian faith with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
We at the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office in Athlone invite you to join us for this memorable event. Take advantage of our experience in organising what has made our pilgrimages one of the most popular among the many organised countrywide! To date we have organised and participated in five World Youth Days in Paris, Rome, Toronto, Cologne, and Sydney. Join us in Madrid in 2011. Remember WYD 2011 in August is going to be hot! And there will be huge crowds and the pilgrimage can be physically demending. However, it's also great craic!
Pre-registration deposits of Eur200 being taken.

Letter from Bishop Colm O Reilly before WYD 2008 in Australia
Dear Young People.
In recent years many young Irish people have gone to Australia to sample life in the part of the world we sometimes refer to as "down under". In 2008 a large number will go not to experience a different kind of life for a time but to take part in World Youth Day and see Pope Benedict in Sydney. Our Diocese will be represented there. In preparation for WYD the Pope has asked young people, those going to Australia and those not doing so, to ask this question: is it possible to love? He is concerned that many people, even young ones, have begun to think of love as an impossible dream. He assures the young that for those who believe that love comes from God and that "God is love", that can never be so. So he puts to the young in this year 2007 this challenge that comes from St John's Gospel: "just as I have loved you, you should love one another".
Youth ministry is founded on love of others, care for others and a willingness to work together. Does that sound easy? Maybe so. But we know
it is not. Love calls for forgiveness, tolerance and giving one another the space we need to grow together. Here is what the Pope says: "be attentive in your concern for the welfare of others and faithful to the commitments you have made. Show your faithful love for Jesus by proclaiming his Gospel, especially among people of your age".
Love is possible. Let's prove it.
+Colm O'Reilly.
Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.
